Of the seven traditional crafts developed in Nagano Prefecture, two originated in Iiyama. These crafts, Iiyama butsudan (Buddhist altar) construction and Uchiyama paper making, are at the heart of the museum, which presents the artistry and process behind the artwork. Works by highly skilled artists are displayed alongside prototypes.
